The Jack Daniel Distillery is officially established, making it the very first registered distillery within the US, with Jack as the Master Distiller. The opening of his now-famous distillery would follow shortly thereafter, right next to Jack Daniel’s prime resource: the mineral-rich Cave Spring Hollow.
Jack Daniels: Tennessee Whiskey or Bourbon? Jack Daniel’s is a Tennessee Whiskey and not a bourbon. The process of charcoal filtration on Jack Daniel’s bestows the drink with a smoky flavor before the aging begins, so it is not a bourbon. Jack Daniel slowly drips through a teen ft. of firmly packed charcoal made from sugar maple.
To the aficionados, Jack Daniels is not a bourbon. It is a Tennessee Whiskey. I am not an aficionado, however, there is something about their filtering process that is different with the Tennessee Whiskey than the others. I do like JD Single Barrel Barrel Proof and most George Dickel products. They are both technically not considered bourbon
The whiskey finishes with a light smoke aftertaste. Batch 02 of Jack Daniel’s 10 Year is noticeably more fruit and oak forward this year, yet less sweet overall. Even compared to Jack Daniel’s 12 Year, there is much more aged oak present in it, which is surprising seeing as it spent two less years in barrels.

The primary differences of Maker’s Mark vs Jack Daniels whiskies are: Maker’s Mark is a bourbon whiskey. Jack Daniels is a Tennessee whiskey. Maker’s Mark is 45% ABV (90 proof) Jack Daniels is 40% ABV (80 proof) Maker’s is still hand-made. Jack is machine-produced. Maker’s Mark is aged for about 6-7 years.

To Make the Cupcakes. Preheat oven to 350F. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla and mix just to incorporate. Whisk together flour, salt and baking powder. Add to the wet mixture and beat until just combined. Add the whiskey and milk until just combined.
