On Japanese forks, has a little fine wiper on the inside diameter of the seal, the fine ridge begins to spider web and weeping will occur, a cleaning tool wont fix that. Generally I replace seals once I see a sustained Heavier looking film.

The ktm exc is an enduro race bike that happens to have a plate. Oil change intervals alone would make this an expensive commuter. Commuter bikes hold 3 quarts of oil for a reason. He said sure the Ktm can be used as a commuter, but you will be rebuilding motors and transmissions frequently.

Friend had a 2015 EXC 500 on desert travel. We did 1400 miles w/o oil change on all 4 bikes. Regular practice for cross country riding. The bike was almost new at the time. They put some strange info in KTM manuals, most is good, but oil change input here is more realistic.

Posted March 18, 2017. 1.3 qts (41.6 oz) or 1.2 liters per owners manual. Oil change on the RFS was routinely 44 oz with oil for both filter wells. The 500 took 40 oz with a filter soak & well fill yesterday. Doesn't seem to be a lot of difference.

I have a new 2014 KTM 500 XCW, same issue with metal chips/flakes. I immediately called. dealer and spoke with service manager. He says this is totally normal with this particular bike and is why they say to change oil often and clean all screens including magnetic plug. Metal chips will lesson with oil changes.

Posted December 4, 2016. Yes, it's one of the oil filter cover threads that were stripped. I spoke with one of the KTM mechanics where I bought the bike and he was talking about just tapping to a larger bolt but, I have no experience with this so that's why I'm here. I'd like to keep the same bolt. Thanks for the replies.

I change my engine oil every 500 miles, but during a 2k dualsport loop I had to push that to 700, and the oil still looked descent. I use Thumper full synthetic.
